The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) has praised Mazda's decision to scrap all the vehicles on board the capsized Cougar Ace. Although most of the 4,703 Mazdas were not damaged by the incident but still Mazda would not want to compromise the safety of their customers.

In Washington: The Detroit Free Press has reported that the new fuel economy estimates for new cars and trucks window stickers will fall by about 2 to 4 mpg on the average. The said estimate was based on the new rules set by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
The new EPA estimates is expected to reduce 12 % for city while an 8% reduction is seen for highway driving. The changes will still vary depending on the model but hybrid vehicles are the ones seen to have the most EPA reduction averaging of 22% for city and 13% for highway driving.
Japan Today has reported that Honda Motor Co. is planning to recall a total of 209,898 of its Mobilio and Mobilio Spike small passenger cars manufactured from November 2001 to May 2005 for repairs due to defective parts.
The brake lights and the gears of the Mobilio and Mobilio Spike were found out to have defective wiring system, Honda said in a report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. There are already 41 cases of reported from October 2004 to September this year.

Inside Lines reports that General Motors will have a Europe-developed gasoline-electric hybrid car in production by the end of the decade for both Saab and Opel brands. According to Saab Managing Director Jan-Ake Jonsson, hybrid versions would be part of the next-generation 9-3 and 9-5 ranges.
Saab is presently working on hybrid systems in Sweden, and Jonsson said the technology would "fit into the image of the brand." So popular was Nissans pink C+C model, which recently toured Japan in support of breast-cancer awareness that the company will make 100 limited-edition versions of the car for sale in Japan only.

In commemoration of the sale of its 250,000th Touareg, Volkswagen will be offering an Exclusive Edition Touareg.
The Exclusive Edition Touareg will be available with any of the standard Touareg engines, ranging from a 174 hp 5 cylinder diesel up to a 313 hp V10 diesel engine. Looks like Cadillac fans may soon get to drive a more environment friendly version of the SUV soon.
General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner has confirmed that Cadillac will get its first hybrid vehicle in the fall of 2007 with the 2008 Escalade SUV.
The announcement was made Wednesday at the Baltimore transmission plant during a ceremony to name the plant as the builder of GM’s hybrid transmissions.
According to news, the hybrid version of the Escalade will use a new transmission made by GM's Allison division. The two-mode hybrid system will be similar to what GM will use in the hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs.
The hybrid Escalade is set to gain 25 percent in fuel economy, meaning the vehicle could get close to 30 mpg on the highway. GM will be spending $118 million for this hybrid big baby.
Well, that looks like good news. At least in the future, there'll be something more to talk about other than your Escalade's rocking good looks, or even the possibility of making it even more "rockin" with auto parts like grilles or bumpers from Auto Parts Online.

Christmas – it's the time of the year again when driving becomes an extra challenge, what with snow and the ice that come with the season. Before you head off to work, holiday shopping, or to that special Christmas dinner with the folks, make sure that you and your car are ready for the challenges ahead.

Also follow these steps:
* Clear snow from all your windows and windscreen just before driving off. Also check that your lights, mirrors, and number plates are clear.
* At the earliest opportunity, check your grip on the road surface by choosing a safe place to brake gently.
* Drive slowly, allowing much more room to slow down and stop.
* Take particular care in bends where skids are more likely. Brake progressively on the straight before you reach a bend.
* Use the highest possible gear. Avoid sudden acceleration and braking.
* If you have difficulty getting traction in a front-drive car, gently rock the steering wheel from side to side, keeping the accelerator steady. This should help your tires to grip.
* If you become stranded in snow, stay in your car unless shelter is within easy reach. Your car is easier to find than you are. Use the engine to keep the heater working but make sure your exhaust is clear; otherwise you risk suffocation from a build-up of carbon monoxide. In deep drifts, open the window slightly and keep the roof clear of snow.

The impressive 4 new-model lineup of the Honda Civic (which include sizzling Si, a sleek coupe, an elegant sedan and a Hybrid that averages 50 miles per gallon) has been winning the hearts and minds of many – getting nods for numerous accolades like Motor Trends’ prestigious Car of the Year award, being selected as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick awards and recently, has been voted as the best redesigned vehicle for 2006 by the influential Kelley Blue Book.
Both cars also have to contend with the 2006 Pontiac Solstice, GM’s newest star. Pontiac's new roadster, based on GM's new rear-wheel-drive Kappa platform, is eye candy that turns heads wherever it is driven. My six year-old Honda Civic coupe is still as reliable as ever, and I’m perfectly happy to recommend any model of this car to anyone – see if you prefer driving over visiting repair-shop waiting rooms, the Civic is always a wise choice. The Fusion and the Solstice are great, but my bet goes to the Honda Civic.

Instead of assigning separate ratings for front crashes, side-impact crashes and head restraints like the tests conducted by entities like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA gives vehicles one to five stars in each of three categories: front-impact crashes, side-impact crashes and rollover resistance.), the Insurance Institute's new list combines the measures in a single rating.
To get the gold designation, a car must have good ratings in all three categories. A silver award denotes good ratings for front and side impacts and an acceptable head-restraint rating. 16 small cars, 24 mid-sized cars and three large cars (representing the best of 2006 cars, officials said) were tested in all three categories. No minivans meet the Institute's criteria to earn a Top Safety Pick. Pickups and SUVs weren't included in this round of award
